We’re On Google!!

Ahh, the fame

Thats right folks, now you can search for us on Google (and probably other search engines too)!
For best results try searching “Science Joy Life” and we’ll be on the first page of results, woohoo!

OcDoc here, just a quick post to introduce what I’m going to be doing for the next 4 or so weeks. I’ve managed to get myself a work placement at Herts Uni in the Astrophysics department, which will hopefully provide me with lots of interesting insights into postgraduate study and what astrophysics is really like. As a consequence, I’ve decided to keep a weekly diary, to provide you folks with facts and to let me collect my thoughts for when I’m doing my write-up! Everyone’s a winner, eh?

For anyone who’s interested, I got this work placement through the Nuffield Bursary scheme, which means I also get to apply for a Gold CREST award and get £80 a week in expenses! I really recommend everyone to see if they can do it next time it rolls around, as work experience is really valuable these days. Plus, if you find out that real lab work is horrible then you might still have time to change your mind and become a bartender! Mine’s a pint! Chin-chin!

Journal Club badge!

This is the little design for a journal club badge I have been working on, of which I told some of you. Ignore the black outline, it’s just a frame to show you the design. The colors are a little skewed to, because I had to convert the file. If you guys are into it, I just need to bring this up with Ms.Robins and see if I can get it permitted on school uniform! – Cole

Just a quick post to say “hello internet!” and check that all the wordpress settings I’ve been slaving over for the past half hour are actually working. This blog will hopefully, over the next year turn into a labour of love, and not just something to put on our UCAS forms, as I for one intend to regularly post about my preferred field of Physics, if only to fill up all the free time that I’ll have next year… *ahem*

Anyways, we here at SJL should have sufficient time spent away from the grindstone to bring you an engaging and informative blog, with as few spelling errors, and as many polysyllabic chemicals as we can think of. Polytetrafluoroethene anyone?

Well, I’ll sign off before I ramble on too much, but here’s to a long and vaguely successful future of science blogging. Chin-chin!
